Sports Residency Program

St. Luke’s-Elks Rehab has the only Sports Residency Program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association in the state of Idaho. The 12-month residency includes mentorship in both clinical and academic settings, providing physical therapists an opportunity to increase competency in sports physical therapy, ultimately preparing the resident to take the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties exam in Sports Physical Therapy.

Sports Residents are licensed physical therapists who are seeking the distinguished Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) designation. The program focuses on five primary areas:

  • Critical inquiry/Evidence-based practice
  • Educational/consultation
  • Advanced clinical skills
  • Foundational and clinical sciences
  • Health promotion, fitness and wellness

Upon conclusion of the Sports Residency Program, our former residents have accepted positions with a professional hockey team in Canada and the US Women's Tennis Association.
